VegQuestion 2 : Transitioning from Vegetarian to Vegan?

For milk – I love almond milk! Some people have different opinions on it. You also have access to soy milk and rice milk. I would say 99% of grocery stores, at least on cape cod, have those milk options now. I don’t usually drink it by itself but I have it in my coffee and other things. Dunkin Donuts has an almond milk option. Starbucks has soy. I recently even found peppermint mocha almond milk and “egg nog” for the holiday selections.

For cheese – The brand named “Daiya” makes a lot of cheesy things. They have different vegan pizzas like cheese lovers and I think one of them even has vegan sausage on it? Those frozen pizzas are in a lot of supermarkets. Also American Flatbread has a Vegan Harvest pizza and that one is my favorite! The cheese is definitely different. It is made from tapioca. Strange, I know. I haven’t had luck with any sliced vegan cheese yet but I recently saw a new option on the shelf at stop and shop and I’m going to try it.

Horrible photo but this is the only one that displayed the most Daiya products. They have cheeses, pizzas, cream cheeses, yogurt, etc.

Eggs – There are many things you can replace for eggs. My boyfriend and I do a tofu scramble for breakfast a lot. It’s really good when seasoned well. AND for baking, there are many alternatives to give things the consistency of an egg whether it’s a brand that makes the alternative or if it’s an organic item like flax seed.

Sidenote – I wasn’t sure where to fit butter for this post so for butter, I usually use the brand called Earth Balance.

LASTLY, All of the frozen foods I would not necessarily consider healthy so another thing you could use as like a cheese for pasta could be Nutritional Yeast. It has tons of protein and other vitamins in it. AND it has been known to have a cheesy taste. Sprinkle it on anything and it should add more flavor.
